A theatre show based around windfarms in rural areas opens the new season of professional theatre at the Foxlowe Arts Centre in Leek. The Foxlowe Arts Centre in Leek is hosting a professional theatre show which puts the focus on windfarms in rural areas. This is the first of two productions following success earlier in the year, when another local theme, fracking, was addressed.
“Giants on the Hill” is on Friday 14 October, at 7.30pm.
In a show which is particularly appropriate for the Staffordshire Moorlands and the Peak District, three actor musicians will tell the story of a fictional rural community and the conflicts caused by the proposed siting of a windfarm in its vicinity.
The production is inventive and entertaining and tackles the wider concept of ‘energy’ with the actors creating sound effects onstage using wine glasses and other props. Their ultimate aim is to transport energy with them from venue to venue (go ‘off-grid’) in the form of batteries to power their lights and technical equipment, which they will have created by pedalling on-stage bikes at each venue.
This is followed on Thursday 17 November. Using playful storytelling, innovative live music and original songs, “Launch Party is a new play by Bucket Club which investigates family, space exploration and how we carry our home with us wherever we go.
The two productions are brought to Leek in association with the Live & Local touring network which is funded by the Arts Council, Staffordshire County Council and a number of local authorities, including SMDC.
