Art Student Mark Wilbrey has created a candid photography exhibit that peeks behind the curtains of a theatre production, and goes on public display at the Staffordshire Annual ‘Show and Tell’ Art & Design exhibition from June 7
His photographs go behind the scenes of a theatrical production in action and reveal performers both on-stage and behind the scenes, as they get ready or relax between scenes.
Mark wanted to explore the human ability to communicate not just verbally, but physically – through body language and gestures as well as facial expressions, and theatre was the ideal place to capture this
[blockquote]This documentary project was not only to examine and record visual communications on and off stage, but to reveal the level of unquestionable intimacy and trust between genders, and trust not only between actors but between subject and photographer too. [/blockquote]
The stylish shots capture actors not only in the midst of performance, but most revealing are the images taken backstage showing real emotion rarely seen.
Mark’s work will be just one of the exhibits from over 300 art and design students about to graduate from from Staffordshire University. Their work is on display in the annual Show and Tell show at the Henrion Gallery, College Road, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire from 8 to 15 June, with a special preview night on Friday 7 June
