A film based on the mermaid legend of Staffordshire Moorlands Blake Mere pool, which can be found high on the moors that surround Leek, gets its premiere screening in Stoke this October.
‘Beneath Still Water’ is a locally made film produced by a team of Staffordshire writers and film makers which tells the legend of a mermaid said yo have lived within the murky waters of the pool, and how she lured men into the water never to be seen again.
Written and produced by Staffordshire writer Steven K Beattie and produced/directed by Philip Kempson, Beneath Still Water will premiere on October 28th at Cineworld in Stoke.

Steven specialises is horror and currently in the process of writing a collection of monologues. One of Steven’s short stories THE VOICE WITHIN – has been included in the anthology ‘Impossible spaces’ alongside horror maestro Ramsey Campbell.
He has also recently premiered his first play ‘Invisible Tears’ at Stoke Repertory theatre. The play was based on the life
of Edgar Allan Poe, and included some adaptations of Poe’s short stories.
Stoke based Philip has been in the entertainment industry for more than three decades, starting out as stage crew for the Theatre Royal, Hanley in the 80’s.
