Award winning Danish folk rock quartet comes to Staffordshire village

Staffordshire Arts
Harald Haugaard Quartet featuring Helene Blum

Music lovers of Stanton nr Ashbourne in East Staffordshire are in for a real treat when with Harald Haugaard Quartet playing at Gilbert Sheldon Hall on Sat 25 May 2013.  Its part of the  innovative Live and Local initiative which is designed to bring live arts and entertainment into communities without traditional performance venues, such as rural villlages.

Harald Haugaard is one of the most sensational musicians on the Danish music scene and he has won nine Danish Music Awards. He is accompanied by his trio, gathering Danish guitarist Mikkel Grue and percussionist Sune Rahbek, who bring a modern, rocky element to the sound. For this special tour they will also be joined by singer Helene Blum.

Helene Blum has thrilled audiences throughout Europe and across the world with her intensely expressive, crystal clear voice. Using ancient songs and ballads as a base, she reinvents and mixes them with newly written pieces.

The band is deeply rooted in Danish music traditions, but at the same time not afraid to challenge them. They perform a delicate blend of traditional songs and dance tunes complemented by Harald’s delighful anecdotal tales of life in Denmark.

[blockquote]Haugaard is a brilliant fiddler, one of the very best in the world -Bouncy polkas and an affectionate waltz added fresh colour, but it was blisteringly fast tunes that stood out for their wonderfully clean playing and Haugaard’s dynamic delivery – fRoots Magazine[/blockquote]
