Six Artists Needed for 12 month Arts and Health Project

Staffordshire Arts

Six artists are needed to take part in ‘This Way Up’, a 12 month Staffordshire and Wolverhampton participatory arts professional development programme worth £3,600 and run by Creative Health (Arts and Health) Community Interest Company.

This 12-month project is aimed at artists who want to develop their participatory visual arts practice with refugees, asylum seekers and migrants, and with older people with dementia. In addition, the project provides opportunities to develop outreach and public engagement work.

Creative Wellbeing Project

This Way Up is a creative wellbeing project for people living in Wolverhampton and Staffordshire. Tailored to different community groups, This Way Up provides an opportunity to take part in a regular artistic activity, led and supported by a professional artist, and inspired by gallery collections.

The aim of This Way Up is to contribute towards an improved sense of wellbeing by providing a creative outlet, a break from everyday life, a safe social space and an opportunity to develop individual creative interests.

This Way Up Professional Development Programme

The 12-month programme provides training and support for six artists, working with lead artists Sarah Taylor Silverwood and Ben Sadler to plan and deliver hands-on visual arts workshops, and with artist Justin Wiggan to develop outreach and engagement work using sound.

Workshops for refugees, migrants and asylum seekers will take place at Wolverhampton Art Gallery, and for older people at Limewood Dementia Care Home in Stafford. Outreach and engagement work will take place in libraries, archives and gallery spaces.

The Opportunity

The fee will be £3600 for 24 days over the 12-month project, including workshop delivery, mentoring, training, research and development time.

The project will start in October 2016 until September 2017, with participatory workshops running from November 2016 until July 2017. The project will culminate in an exhibition of work by participants.

Deadline for applications is Wednesday 19 October 2016, 5pm

Short-listed artists will be notified by 21 October and invited to a recruitment day on Thursday 27 October to deliver a 10-15 minute warm-up exercise suitable for a participatory arts workshop, followed by individual interviews.
