The rawness of the sometimes hard hitting teen rock n roll movie Quadrophenia is about to explode on stage in Tamworth.
Billed as being from the company that brought Pink Floyd, The Wall to Tamworth Assembly Rooms, (sorry didn’t see it??), they are now about to set light to the blue touch paper on the ultimate rock’n’roll theatrical explosion… The Who’s QUADROPHENIA
As a roller coaster theatrical, musical and multi arts exploration of the counter culture, fashion and identity, gender, anti social behaviour, inter-generational timeline, drug misuse, mental health illness and attitudes – this perhaps won’t be one for a fluffy family trip to the theatre. However, if you’re looking for something more intense in terms of both the story and the fantastic Who inspired/written score – which is to be fair a fantastic soundtrack recently remastered – then we dare say that you’re going to want to rev up your lambretta, put on your green parker and make sure you get into see this.

The original movie famously starred a cavalcade of young fresh talent that went on to be mammoth in the world of theatre, TV, movies and music with Sting who played ‘the Face’, Toyah Wilcox, Ray Winstone, Lesley Ash and led by Phil Daniels who puts in an exceptional (perhaps his best?) performance as Jimmy – the central character (although he was dead good in Scum too).
It will be interesting to see how true to the movie this piece will be – which was gritty, raw, sometimes violent, covering themes of sex, drugs and rock n roll teen lifestyle – if you haven’t seen it, think ‘Trainspotting’ in terms of style. (Although in our opinion Trainspotting was a far superior British film). It was made we recall about the same time as the TV movie SCUM, (late seventies/early eighties?) and is in the same vein. Certainly worth checking the movie version out too. Quadrophenia on DVD link here
That said Quadropheneia certainly played a massive part in dealing with the growing pains of ‘my generation’, (er, cough..excuse the intended pun), and my own life, and it marked a significant milestone in my own teen years – so really looking forward to this.
The Pinch 60’s Rock n Roll Tribute Band will be providing the authentic musical sound to this unique theatrical event.
